The Mayor of Clare feels the success for Ennis in the National Tidy Towns competition vindicates the county town’s reputation for cleanliness.

The ceremony in Dublin yesterday was very success for Clare with six medals for local communities – bronze medals went to Kilkee and Tuamgraney, Mountshannon secured a silver, and Ballynacally and Kilrush joined the county town in being presented with a gold medal.

Ennis was also crowned Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre, and also won a national award for controlling gum litter just one week after it fell 15 spots to 31st in the Littler League rankings published by the Irish Business Against Litter Group.

However, Councillor Pat Daly is confident that Ennis deserves only praise.
