The Mayor of Ennis has warned the future development of Clare’s County Town will be undermined by the Environment Minister’s plans to abolish the local urban authority.

All 80 town councils are set to be scrapped, while Clare could reportedly lose up to 8 county councillors  under the new Municipal Districts set to be formed.

Phil Hogan insists it will lead to more a more efficient service at local government level and will bring about savings of 420 million euro.
