The judges of a new national tourism award are in Ennis today, to see if the county town can scoop the accolade.

Ennis is one of ten areas nationwide to have been short-listed for the inaugural Tourism Town Award, which rewards towns and villages that endeavour in efforts to draw in visitor numbers.  Ballyvaughan is also in the running for the honour.

The judges of the award will visit Ennis today, before deciding the overall winner of the 10 thousand euro top prize next month

Áine Purcell, chairperson of the Ennis Tidy Towns Committee, says the award could provide a huge spin-off for Clare.
