Clare’s Town Councils look set to commence a fight against the decision to abolish them in the coming days.

The urban authorities in Ennis, Shannon, Kilrush and Kilkee will meet for the first time this week since Minister Phil Hogan announced the abolition of 80 town councils and a cut in County Councils across the country.

The Minister says it will lead to more cost efficient and effective local representation, but members Ennis Town Council will discuss their opposition to the reforms later today, while a Kilrush Councillor is calling on the four town councils in Clare to join forces to fight Phil Hogan’s plans.

Fianna Fail’s Tom Prendeville is calling for a united front between local authorities and the public they represent
