Council urged to invest in collecting rates

Clare County Council has been urged to invest more manpower in the collection of commercial rates, in order to boost it’s own income.

It’s after the local authority  admitted that efforts to collect rates this year have fallen behind levels achieved in 2011.

71% of businesses have paid commercial rates to date this year, down from 75% last year, while the total moneys collected so far in 2012 is 3.85 million euro lower than had been expected.
