Clare County Council is vowing to assist in the development of Shannon Airport, after it’s established as an independent entity.

The local authority is to holdit’s December meeting at the airport, where it will unveil a first ever dedicated plan for Shannon Town and it’s environs.

The document emphasizes the importance of a 2,000 acre landbank in the vicinity of the airport, zoned for aviation sector use.  The plan earmarks this site as a key part of future development, and also vows to facilitate the development of an international cargo hub, and a global logistics centre for humanitarian aid.

Shannon is set to break free from the DAA prior to the unveiling of this plan, and Mayor of Clare Councillor Pat Daly feels the Mid West airport has a bright future.
