The future of Shannon Airport should become clearer next week when The Transport Minister finally unveils government plans for the creation of a stand alone entity in the MidWest.
Clare Senator Tony Mulcahy has confirmed Leo Varadkar will hold a press briefing on Monday where he will outline exact details of Shannon’s separation from the DAA, the timeframe involved and the new managerial board to be put in place.
It comes as Aer Lingus proposals to transfer its maintenance base from the Mid West to Dublin now appear likely as Shannon staff prepare to vote on what’s considered a generous redundancy package.
Senator Mulcahy doesn’t believe the loss of this base in the region will hamper the airport’s future development
