The Transport Minister says the make up of the new board set to run the newly independent Shannon Airport entity wil be announced in the coming weeks.

Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus Leo Varadkar insists the government’s plans for the future of Clare’s International airport is the best option given the alternative was possible downgrading and night-time closures.

850 jobs have already been secured by two separate companies and while the Minister admits it will be two to three years before they all come on stream, other aspects of the plan will proceed now.

And Minister Varadkar hopes to be in Shannon before the end of the year to sign off on the separation which takes effect on December31st
