Deep anger over Clare Garda Station Closures

The closure of 8 Garda stations in Clare has been described as an "attack on rural Ireland".

Garda stations in Quin, Inagh, Lahinch, Broadford, Mountshannon, Doonbeg, Kilmihil and Labasheeda are set to be among the 100 stations nationwide which will close their doors next year as part of budgetary measures.

It’s also been announced that the current number of 4 Garda Districts in the Clare Garda Division will fall to 2.

Clare Fine Gael Government TDS insists it will lead to a more efficient policing service here and insist the closure isn’t a government measure.

However local councillors have rejected this claiming senior garda managment has been forced to take these steps due to the ongoing officer recruitment embargo.

Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, Senior Government Minister Simon Coveney denies this and also insists that despite the closures, rural parts of Clare will be fully policed
