Plans for Shannon Airport’s sole run from the DAA could be about to hit a snag.

The result of a ballot for possible strike action by staff at the Mid West Airport is due today and Clare FM understands workers are set to vote in favour of such a move.

Over the past month staff at Shannon Airport expressed deep concerns about the Transport Minister’s plans to separate it from the DAA.

SIPTU trade union officials stated they’d no confidence in the proposals and that there was virtually no consultation with staff.

Despite reassurances from both Minister Leo Varadkar and Airport management- Siptu pressed ahead with a ballot of its near 200 members at Shannon.

The result’s due today but the union says minor technical difficulties could delay it until Monday –  regardless – sources have informed Clare FM that staff have backed plans for industrial action.

It comes as Minister Varadkar is due in Clare in the coming weeks to sign off on the order which s passed through the Dáil on Tuesday allowing the separation of the Mid West airport to proceed on December 31st
