County Manager Estuary plan will spur economic growth

Clare’s County Manager says a new multi-agency strategy for the Shannon Estuary will help spur development of marine-related industry and tourism in the county.

The first-of-its-kind document has been drawn up by local authorities and agencies throughout the MidWest, and outlines ways in which the estuary can be used to attract further cruise ship activity.

It also identifies the Clare areas of Moneypoint and Innismurry/Cahercon as ‘strategic sites’, as well as a number Clare bays as opportunity points for fishing and aquaculture.

County Manager Tom Coughlan chaired the steering group which drew up this report, and while he admits it doesn’t contain any big project, he’s hopeful it’ll make a postive difference.
