With just one more big sleep till Santa, parents across Clare are being urged to be fire safety aware to help  ensure the day doesn’t end in tragedy.

Over the festive season in 2011 the county’s fire brigades responded to 48 incidents, most of them fire related,  from house and chimney fires to smaller blazes because of faulty lights or unattended candles.

Statistics show that 80 percent of fire related deaths occur in the home in Ireland and Senior Fire Officer with Clare County Council Dennis O Connell says Christmas lights can be a particular problem

Dozens of people across Clare are preparing to take the plunge before they tuck into the turkey tomorrow…. and its all the aid of very worthy causes!!
