Clare’s TDs have been urged to ‘show leadership’ by paying commercial rates on their constituency offices.
Dail representatives are exempt from paying the charge which is levied on businesses, but Ennis Town Council will now write to the county’s TDs, who all have offices in the county town, asking them to pay what’s been termed a ‘voluntary contribution’.
Green Party Councillor Brian Meaney admits the proposal will not generate much revenue for the local authority, but feels it would allow the county’s TDs to make a gesture of solidarity
