HSE West unable to provide anomaly scans

The HSE says it’s not in a position to offer anomaly scans as a routine measure to prospective Clare mothers.

The scan, which is carried out after around 20 weeks of pregnancy, detects pre-birth abnormalities and is offered to all patients in some parts of Ireland, including Dublin.

However, the service is not offered as a routine measure to women in Clare, with the HSE saying it’s not in a position to do this in the Mid West.

However, officials say women with a high risk of anomaly are referred for the procedure.

Ennis Councillor Paul O’Shea says it’s an issue of concern to many in the town and beyond.
