St. Patrick’s Day festivities in Clare begin today, with the holding of the traditional parade in Lisdoonvarna from 2 o’clock.

However the majority of the parades will be held tomorrow, on March 17th itself, as Clare FM’s Gavin Grace reports.

The largest of Clare’s parades will be held in Ennis, beginning at 11 o’clock on Sunday morning.

Led by town mayor Cllr. Peter Considine, 50 groups including the 40-strong St Mary’s Catholic School Marching Band from Phoenix, Arizona will travel from Clare County Council offices on New Road, and along a route including  Abbey Street, O’Connell Square, O’Connell Street and Barrack Street.

Traffic management arrangements will be in place, including road closures from 8 o’clock until 2:30 – Gardai will be on point duty.

Elsewhere there’s a 2:00 start for the parades in Shannon and Killaloe, with proceedings starting an hour later in Kilrush in Ennistymon where John Richardson is among the organisers

Parades will also be held tomorrow in Kilkee, Miltown Malbay, Doolin, Fanore, Liscannor, Kilfenora, Tulla, Scarriff and Kinvara.

Parades in Doonbeg and Gort will take place on Monday.
