Clare County Council has called on the Agriculture Minister to grand additional powers to dog wardens and Gardai in an effort to prevent attacks on livestock.

Local representatives have expressed concern at a number of incidents which have seen dogs attack animals in rural parts of the county.

They’ve called for legislation to be enacted, forcing all dogs to be micro-chipped, and they also want wardens and Gardai to be given more powers to confiscate the animals concerned.

Clarecastle Fine Gael Councillor Paul Murphy says it’s also important for dog owners to take responsibility.
