Over 2,000 Clare residents joined their local library last year.
Library membership throughout the county increased to just under 20,000 with Ennis and the newly opened branch in Kilkee the most popular.
The increase was the largest recorded since 2007, while figures also show that those who have signed up are making use of the service.
Over 560,000 books were issued in Clare last year, an average of 28 books per member.
