A receiver has been appointed to the Ennis Building firm M. Fitzgibbon Limited.

It’s bad news for around 30 staff at the long running family construction firm, after a receiver was appointed to the company by Danske Bank.

M. Fitzgibbon Builders Ltd. stopped work on a major council project in Kerry in early March and at the time, the company insisted it was still trading as normal – but Receiver Jim Luby of McStay-Luby was appointed Receiver and Manager to the company by Danske Bank last week and a spokesperson for Fitzgibbons confirmed their closure to Clare FM last evening.

Based on the Gort Road in Ennis – M Fitzgibbon Builders Limited  has been involved in delivering major Civil Engineering and Building Projects since 1985, including Schools in Ennis and Barefield, housing estates throughout the Mid-West, and the restoration of Ennis Cathedral.

Most recently the firm has been involved in the construction of new corridor at Ennis General Hospital and the new Supervalu Store in Miltown Malbay.

A significant employer over the years, a spokesperson for Fitzgibbons also quoted staff numbers of 30 employees last month, so news of receivership is seen as another blow to local employment and the construction sector in Clare.
