Up to 38 thousand Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda cars in Ireland are to be recalled over possible problems with passenger airbags.
It’s all part of a world wide recall effecting nearly 3 milllion vehicles and surrounds malfunctioning inflators which could cause the airbag to deploy abnormally during a crash.
The recall follows a number of incidents in the US and Japan but there were no injuries.
Toyota is recalling 1.73 million cars- with 22 thousand of them here in Ireland.
The affected models are Yaris, Corolla and the Avensis which were manufactured between 2000-2004
13,500 Nissan vehicles– Almera, Navara, Pathfinder Patrol, Tarrano, Tino and the X Trial have also been recalled.
It also affects around 15 hundred Honda cars here and a further 390 vehicles manufactured by Mazda.
The Honda models in question are Civic, Jazz and CRV dating back to 2001/2002 while the others are all Mazda 6 models.
Toyota Ireland stresses the recall was made as a voluntary and purely precautionary measure
