There are calls for political intervention to assist two homeless men in Ennis who are currently sleeping rough in the town’s public toilets.

Czech national 55 year old Joseph Pavelka and Peter Baram from Poland have been sleeping in the toilets in the Market area of the town due to a lack of money and chronic alcohol problems.

Their plight was raised at a recent sitting of Ennis District Court and efforts are now being made to find the two men emergency accommodation.

Joseph Pavelka and Peter Baram had spent two years living at Laurel Lodge – however they had to leave as it only meant to accommodate people on a short-term interim basis.

Manager Pat Cahil says while the men’s alcohol addition needs to be addressed, their lack of habitual residency is also a serious stumbling block
