Police and the FBI have raided a number of homes in Boston in the hunt for those responsible for the explosions at the Boston Marathon.

Three people – including an 8 year old boy – were killed and over 140 were injured in the blasts yesterday.

There have been no immediate claims of responsibility.

The double bombing has been described as "an act of terrorism" by a White House official.

Earlier, the Taoiseach has described the bombings at the Boston Marathon as an act of insanity.

Enda Kenny has expressed his sympathy to the people of Boston in a city he described as being "so Irish".

And he expressed his hope that the people responsible will be brought to justice as soon as possible.
