Clare’s Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley says the party’s newest member could be considered as a possible candidate in future General Elections.

Former Green Councillor Brian Meaney has been accepted into the former government party and is likely to become a member in his local cumman in Clarecastle.

He’s will join the local Fianna Fail groupings at Clare’s County Council’s May meeting and hopes to get on the party ticket for the local elections next year.

Fianna Fail lost one of its two seats during the party’s demolition in the last General Election and Clare Deputy Timmy Dooley says Clr Meaney could very well contest a seat next time round.

Meanwhile,

Clare Green Party representatives have expressed disappointment but not surprise, at their former colleague’s decision to retain his local authority seats, despite joining Fianna Fail.

Brian Meaney’s application to become a member of the former government party has been accepted at national headquarters and he will now be allocated to a local Cumman, most likely here in Clarecastle.

Clr Meaney insists he will not bow to suggestions that he should relinquish his seats at Clare County and Ennis Town Councils stating that he and not the Green Party canvassed hard to be elected.

However former Green Party  election candidate Anne Marie Flanagan says people voted for him under the party banner
