100 jobs are to go at Independent News and Media as part of a major restructuring plan.

The company has agreed a deal with its banks to cut its debts through the sale of its South African business and an overhaul of its pension scheme, among other things.

The newspaper groups borrowings will fall from over 460 million euro to around 118 million.

And 26 million euro will be cut from its costs.

INM Chief Executive Vincent Crowley says that means losing about 10 per cent of its workforce.
