The Family of an Ennis man whose body was concealed in a flat for almost three weeks after his death have called for a change in the law to reflect the trauma they’ve suffered as a result.

25 year old Frankie Hassett from the Drumbiggle Road in Ennis died in June of 2011 from an undetermined medical cause though drugs had been a contributory factor.

His badly decomposed remains were discovered in the flat of  Bernard Flaherty in Lifford 19 days later, even though Mr Flaherty had told Gardaí twice that he didn’t know anything of his whereabouts.

Bernard Flaherty was given a three year suspended sentence for wasting garda time, but following an inquest into Frankie Hassett’s death this week, his family says he should have been prosecuted for concealing the body

In an interview broadcast on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, his brother Ian Hassett says they’ll campaign for a change in the law.
