The world’s largest aircraft is in Shannon Airport today. The Antonov AN-225 Mriya has a wingspan of nearly 90 metres, and is the weight of over 220 average sized cars.

It was purpose built in the 1980s to  transport the "Buran" space shuttle for the Soviet space program but has since been transformed into the world’s largest single carrier of air cargo, transporting items such as trains, wind-turbines and even chimney ducts.

The aircraft landed in Shannon on Tuesday, and is set to move on to it’s next destination in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
