Relationships between Ireland North and South will come under the spotlight in Lisdoonvarna over the coming days, as the annual Merriman Summer School begins.

Fianna Fail leader Micheál Martin opens proceedings tonight, and the coming days will see panel discussions and speeches by politicians, academics, church representatives and journalists.

Friday’s joint reading by poets Michael Longley and Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney is among the highlights.

The school’s 2013 Director is Andy Pollak, recently retired from the Centre for Cross Border studies in Armagh.  He feels discussion on the future of ‘both Ireland’s’ is important.
