Pope Francis is set to announce the date that predecessors John Paul the second and John 23rd will be made saints.
The pair are regarded as two of the Catholic Church’s most influential figures – and will be canonised at a joint ceremony at the Vatican likely to take place on April 27th of next year.
The unprecedented double sainthood for two popes is seen by Vatican watchers as an attempt to breach a traditional divide between reformers and conservatives in the Church.
