A Clare Fine Gael TD has thanked the county’s electorate who voted yes in the Seanad Referendum, but admits the overall no decision must be respected by the Government.
There was a marginal yes majority in the Banner County, with 51.3 percent of people supporting the Governments call for the abolition of the Seanad, however the country on a whole said no at 52 percent.
Fine Gael Deputy Pat Breen says the beauty of democracy is that this decision was always going to come down to the people of Ireland.
