Disruption to power supplies and possible storm damage are expected later this evening.

It’s after Met Eireann upgraded their storm warning to a status red alert, the most severe weather warning.

It’s in effect from 4 o’clock this afternoon through to tomorrow afternoon in several counties including Clare and Galway.

They’re forecasting very stormy conditions, with severe damaging gusts of up to 140 kilometres per hour expected, reaching 150 kilometres per hour in exposed coastal areas.

Clare county council are urging people to exercise extreme caution in coastal areas in particular.

There is a high risk of flooding to coastal areas that have flooded in the past as tidal surges are forecast.

It comes as thousands of families across the UK are still without power, following severe storms and flooding there.
