ESB crews are working to restore power to thousands of homes left without supply following the storms.

Around 5000 homes in Clare suffered power cuts, with Ennistymon Kilkee and Kilrush the worst affected areas.

Trees which blew down onto power lines caused many of the outages.

The Midwest Divisional Manager with the ESB says crews are working hard to fully restore power:

One fallen ESB line has seen the main road in Broadford Village closed to Traffic this afternoon.

Garda Diversions are in place at the closure, which is just before the junction to sixmilebridge.

Senior Engineer with Clare County Council Tom Tiernan says many roads have re-opened after fallen debris forced closures overnight, but work is continuing.
