The trial of a West Clare man accused of the murder of four British soldiers in the Hyde Park Bombings in London in 1982 gets underway today.

61 year old John Downey, with an address in Donegal but originally from Saint Joseph’s Terrace in Kilrush, is accused of killing the four men in an IRA bomb attack.

The Household Cavalry members were killed as they rode from their barracks in Knightsbridge to Buckingham Palace.

Mr Downey was arrested in May at Gatwick Airport in London and appeared in court in September charged with murder.
