One of America's most famous businessmen is reportedly in line to purchase The Lodge at Doonbeg.

The Irish Examiner reports that property mogul Donald Trump is regarded as a strong favourite to take over the five-star resort for a fee that is believed to be worth around 15 million euro.

Receivers Ernst and Young were appointed to Doonbeg last month, but at the time General Manager Joe Russell told Clare FM that he was confident a deal would be completed within six weeks, and that there was significant international interest.

Trump owns 15 golf resorts around the world, including a links course in Aberdeen, Scotland, and took the lead role on the American version of TV show The Apprentice.
