A major report into child safeguarding practices in Clare parishes and the handling of sexual abuse cases in the Killaloe diocese will be published today.
It follows a review of practices in the Killaloe Diocese last year as part of a process initiated in the wake of damning revelations into clerical child sex abuse in other parts of the country.
The National Board for Safeguarding Children works with Church Leaders, clergy, lay representatives and congregations to recognise and deal with the historical abuse of children, and to ensure the safety and well-being of children in current church activities.
After the damning Murphy and Cloyne reports into the churches handling of Clerical Child Sex Abuse cases, the Board carried out an audit in the Killaloe diocese last November, when it reviewed current child protection policies in Clare churches, and past cases of abuse.
At the time the Killaloe Diocese also urged anyone affected by child sexual abuse or other child protection issues in Clare's Catholic parishes to come forward if they hadn't already done so.
The findings of this review will be revealed later today with the Bishop Kieran O'Reilly due to publish a report at an event in Dromoland, this afternoon.
