Public health officials are expressing concern over the pattern of COVID-19 outbreaks among household clusters in the region.

The Department of Public Health Mid-West says the UK variant is leading to single cases of the virus rapidly turning into whole household outbreaks.

Officials also say they’ve seen evidence of mask wearing and distancing measures helping prevent the spread of infection.

6 new cases were confirmed in Clare last night, with a further 650 cases confirmed nationwide.

Dr Gerald Barry, an assistant professor of virology in UCD, says the decline in cases may slow down in the coming weeks.
