The title will be a familiar one, but the new Mayor of Ennis will be representing more than the town itself.
While Ennis Town Council has been abolished after 401 years, the role of town mayor will continue, and be given to the Chair of Ennis Municipal District.
This also encompasses communities outside of the county town that vote in the Ennis electoral area, such as Quin, Clarecastle and Kilmaley.
The new Mayor will be chosen in the inaugural meeting of the Ennis Municipal District this afternoon, and the title is worth up to €12,000 a year to its holder.
