Clare Musicians Believe Government Has ‘Work To Do’ To Restore Confidence In Sector

Clare musicians believe the Government still has ‘work to do’ to restore confidence back into the sector.

It’s after updated Failte Ireland guidelines mean live music is now permitted outdoors in front of 200 people.

The new rules, which become clear on Friday, mean pubs, restaurants and hotels can now allow live music to be played again – but only if it’s outdoors.

Social gatherings up to 200 people – again as of now only outdoors – are now explicitly permitted.

The guidelines also state that multiple tables can be booked in these settings but customers won’t be allowed to mingle between them.

There are concerns from prominent musicians in this county that the numbers, while welcome, won’t cover the cost of what’s needed to hold a live gig.

Tara Howley, who’s an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer and dancer from Kilfenora, believes the government still has a job on its hands to restore full confidence in the music sector.

While Failte Ireland’s document suggests live music is permitted in outdoor social settings, it remains banned for weddings.

They’re continuing to be capped at 100 people indoors, with an Ennis wedding planner suggesting some couples would have been happier having less guests and a band at their big day.

Kate Deegan of Co-Ordination Made Easy in the county town, says outdoor weddings with marquees don’t come cheap.
