Tented Accommodation Being Developed In Knockalisheen For Refugees

Tented accommodation is being constructed in Knockalisheen to accommodate refugees and asylum seekers.

The news comes in a week when the Government has been scrambling for alternative accommodation for Ukrainian refugees and those seeking international protection following a spike in demand.

It’s understood the tents will be primarily for those seeking asylum from other areas rather than Ukraine.

 

The works in Knockalisheen started earlier this week, and will have 12 structures capable of hosting up to 10 people in each once finished.

Orla Ni Eili of the Clare Immigrant Support Centre says while temporary solutions are needed, it would be a concern if the measure was to become permanent.
