Just 20% Of Clare 5-11 Year Olds Considered ‘Fully Vaccinated’ Against COVID-19

Just 20 percent of five to 11 year olds in Clare are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

However, more than 9 in ten adults in this county are fully vaccinated, ahead of an expected winter surge of the virus.

Data released by the Central Statistics Office shows a very different picture between adults and children in this county in terms of vaccination status, a trend that’s replicated nationwide.

Local electoral area data shows just 19 percent of five to 11 year olds have taken all vaccines available, while that figure stands at over 92 percent.

The Kilrush region has the highest percentage of fully vaccinated adults, at 96 percent, with Killaloe and Ennis standing at 92 percent, and Shannon and Ennistymon at 91 percent.

Meanwhile, a quarter of five to 11 year olds in East Clare are vaccinated, with that number at 23 percent in the Shannon area.

Ennis sits at 21 percent, there’s a further drop in Kilrush to 16 percent, while it’s just 14 percent in the Ennistymon electoral area.

It comes after the HSE’s Winter Vaccination Programme got underway this week, which also sees free flu jabs coming on stream at GPs and pharmacies.
