When Donald Trump was elected to the White House in November 2016, many residents of Doonbeg told us they were hopeful of a Presidential visit.

On Fridays Morning Focus, Ben Sweeney traveled to the Long Village to find out about how the preparations are coming along for President Trump.

With a a full recount of European election votes for Ireland South, Sean Kelly, Billy Kelleher and Mick Wallace could be on the sidelines at the beginning of July as the recheck is expected to take more than a month to complete, at a cost of up to a million euro.

We were joined by Ferghal Golden and Co-PP of the Parish of Inagh-Kilnamona, Fr Martin Shanahan in relation to a mass for those bereaved by suicide. The mass takes places tomorrow in Inagh.
It comes amid efforts locally to form a support group for those affected.

To end the show we were joined by our Friday Panel –

James Breen Outgoing IND Councillor and ex-Clare TD

Rita McInerney Candidate for FF in next General Election (from Doonbeg)

Martin Lynch Director of Elections for Joe Carey, FG

Tommy Guilfoyle Clare Sinn Féin LIS

…on the analysis of local and European election fall-out.

There’s been no shortage of drama in last weekend’s local elections, with nail-biting re-counts in the Shannon area and a case of ‘all-change’ in the restored electoral area of Ennistymon, where the only sitting councillor, FG’s Bill Slattery, lost his seat.

Fianna Fáil, locally, are on a high with seat gains, while FG is struggling with a rift in North Clare.

Fortunes for Sinn Féin, meanwhile, haven’t been favourable, with only one of their five candidates getting across the line.

The Social Democrats have failed, so far, to make an impact; Labour’s seen no re-bound, and 5 of the 13 non-party hopefuls getting elected.

Meanwhile, the Green Party has gotten its first female candidate onto the council.
