Morning Focus – Monday, April 4, 2016

Morning Focus opened with a speacial look at farming women's health. Several reports show that farming men are not good when it comes to looking after their health but what about women? In an exclusive survey carried out by Health Correspondent Margaret Hawkins, The Farmer's Journal put the ladies to the test. Cholesterol levels and blood pressure needs to drop as does some of the weight but overall, low smoking numbers and high levels of exercise means these ladies are doing many things right. Gavin spoke to Margaret about the Journal's findings.
Gavin was then joined in studio by Adare native Niall O’Callaghan new Business & Relationship Manager for the Midwest wtih IDA. He told Gavin the IDA is committed to achieving an increase in the number of investments in this region.
Rita McInerney, CEO of Ennis Chamber of Commerce joined Gavin to talk about what the organisation would like to see in terms of any new Programme for Government.
After an item on last Friday's show where Dermot Goode discussed VHI premium hikes, Anne Marie from West Clare got in touch. Anne Marie shared her concern at the situation with Gavin.
The leak of some of the financial dealings of the world's most prominent politicians and celebrities alleges 12 world leaders are hiding wealth in secret, offshore accounts.
Campaigners say the information needs to be transparent to stop money launderers and tax evaders.

Here at home, The Irish Times is reporting that a company with an address in Drumcondra in Dublin, is linked with arms deals in India, the Philippines and elsewhere. Gavin spoke to Barry Johnston, tax justice campaign expert.

56 people from across Clare have been honoured (Fri. April 1) for their efforts to help save lives.
They're among 180 blood donors in the region who've been presented with a Gold pin at the Irish Blood Transfusion Service's Awards Ceremony at the Greenhills Hotel in Limerick.
Blood stocks are still low as a result of two bank holidays falling close together and an increased demand over that period.
Gavin was joined by Aileen Brown Area Manager of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service and by Pablo Ignacio Sanz from Ennis who received a Gold Pin on Friday night for donating blood 50 times.
