On todays Morning Focus with John Cooke we heard from Matthew Griffin the Clare Representative of the Vintners Federation and of James Griffin’s Bar Ennistymon who expressed hope that pubs will be allowed to open on Good Friday ahead of Leinster's game versus Bath at home in Dublin that weekend. The Licensed Vintners Association and the Vintners Federation of Ireland say they held a 'very positive' meeting on the issue yesterday with the Justice Minister and they are hopeful of an encouraging response from the Minister 'in due course'.

 

They CAO Deadline is fast approaching. We heard from Guidance Councillor Kilrush Community School and Coach with Clarity Career Coaching Ennis, Aisling Haugh who spoke about trends and difficulties teenagers face during this decision making time. Aisling also offered some advice parents with Leaving Cert children. 

Science Foundation Ireland runs an initiative in conjunction with industry, called Smart Futures which aims to open up the  possibilities of careers in science, technology, engineering and maths to Leaving Cert students. Smart Future Ambassador, All Ireland Winning Clare Hurler and Student Shane O'Donnell chatted to John about the initiative. 

 

We received a positive update from Shannon local Pat Madden following his conversation with John on yesterdays show regarding his water meter and the lost of millions of litres of water. Similarly on this mornings show, Councillor PJ Ryan of Sixmilebridge outlined his concerns about the quality and legality of Irish Water's water meters.

 

 

In our Morning Focus Health Matters slot we spoke with Dr Finn from the Ennis Family Medical Centre who today was joined by Dr. Toby Sachsenmaier a Clinical Child Psychologist. Dr Sachsenmaier discussed parenting techniques and offered parenting advice. Clare Person of the Year 2015 award will be presented at the Clare Association Annual Dinner held in the Clyde Court Hotel Ballsbridge this Saturday. The Chairman Clare Association in Dublin Gerry O’ Reilly and the recipient of the award this year, Clare Person of the year Marty Morrissey joined John for a chat.
