On Monday 10th November the Shannon Group (now an independent plc) announced the relaunch of Shannon Duty Free, taking it back to its original title but with a fresh new look. Established almost 70 years ago, it is the first and oldest duty free in the World.  From humble beginnings it went on to offer top international names in products.  The brainchild of Dr Brendan O'Regan, it all began with Ms. Kitty Downes who set up a small kiosk in the terminal building at Shannon, where she sold souvenirs, Irish linen goods and other locally produced goods. From such inauspicious beginnings, a blueprint was created for the world-wide, multi-billion euro duty free industry we know today.  John was joined by Andrew Murphy Chief Commercial Officer of Shannon and Jimmy Kelly who worked at the originally duty free from 1952 up until his retirement in 1990.
