Morning Focus – Tuesday 29/08/17

Tuesday’s Morning Focus opened with the story of hero Gardaí who risked their lives to save a man from a fire in Shannon.

Superintendent Brendan McDonagh joined Gavin on the line, as did Garda Pat O’Gorman who was one of those involved in the rescue in the Kincora apartment complex, alongside colleagues Gda Seamus Lyons and Gda Finn O’Driscoll.

The talk then turned to the troubling issue of child homelessness. A new campaign has been launched this week and Gavin was joined on the line by the Dave Nugent, Head of Advocacy for the ‘My Name Is’ campaign.

Lifeguards in Clare have been the busiest in the country this summer, recording 50 rescues over June and July alone. Gavin was joined on the line by Clare County Council’s Water Safety Officer, Clare McGrath.

With Hurricane Harvey downgraded, it’s still causing huge problems for residents of Texas. Gavin caught up with an Ennis native Emma Newell, who lives in Houston. She told him of the stress of watching flood waters threaten her home. Listen back below:

Aileen Browne of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service Board (IBTS) was Gavin’s next guest. She made a special appeal for donor to attend clinics in Ennis running each evening from 5-8pm until Thursday (August 31) at the West County Hotel.
