On Tuesdays Morning Focus after a lovely bank holiday weekend, we were joined by Ennis man, Noel Cusack – Ultra Endurance Cyclist – who is gearing up for some incredible feats of sporting stamina – an ultra cycling marathon across America.

Clare Divisional Garda Chief Superintendent Michael Gubbins joined Gavin on Morning Focus to discuss the ‘ring of steel’ surrounding the village of Doonbeg, ahead of the visit on Wednesday (June 5) of the US President.

The Irish Independent reported this week that around 1,000 Gardai are to be assigned to Clare and Limerick over the course of this week.

Deputy Pat Breen Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection joined Gavin Grace to discuss that Enterprise Ireland (EI), the state agency responsible for helping Irish companies export to international markets, has announced that its clients recorded export sales of €23.8 billion in 2018, representing a 6% increase on 2017.

There’s been a welcome for the fact that the Eurozone region, which is a key focus of Enterprise Ireland’s diversification strategy, saw growth of 7.6 % to €4.8 billion, with Germany, France and the Netherlands each exceeding €1 billion in exports.

 

In May 2011, then US President, Barack Obama returned to Moneygall, the home of the president’s great great great grandfather. He and his wife Michelle were met by cheering crowds and brought to Ollie Hayes’ pub to sample the Guinness and the warm welcome. He spent around 20 minutes chatting to members of the Hayes family and their clientele, and he told them about having his first ever pint of proper Guinness. We heard from Ollie Hayes – Owner of Ollie Hayes Bar in Monegall.

The Association of Nigerians in Clare have a big day in store on Thursday (June 6), with the launch at 11am of a book entitled ‘Nigeria Through Our Lens’.
The event takes place at the Clare Education Centre on the Kilrush Road.
