Morning Focus Tuesday August 14

This morning a search operation resumed for two missing fisherman at Quilty
The 26 foot fishing vessel was last seen south of Hag’s Head at around lunchtime yesterday afternoon
The alarm was raised around eight o’clock last night as the men – from the Quilty area failed to return on their 12 foot vessel, Lady Eileen as expected after 5pm.
A Search operation was launched immediately involving the Doolin Coastgaurd, Kilkee Marine Search and Rescue and the Waterford Based Coastguard Helicopter
A shoreline search from Liscannor down to Quilty was also conducted and during this a strong smell of diesel was detected in the Spanish Point area along with some debris – but its not known if this is in any way connected to the missing vessel
The co-ordinated search was suspended shortly after one am this morning and resumed at first light

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Mattie Shannon of the Doolin Coastguard  to get the latest information on the search

Parish Priest Kilmurry Ibrickane Fr Pat Larkin explained the shock and concern of the community but said they are trying to retain hope at this difficult time

Spanish Point Councillor Michael Hillery was also at the scene this morning, he spoke about the work going into the seach.

Shannon Camera Club celebrates 35 years of photography with the launch of phase three of their touring photographic exhibition
They are currently exhibiting in The Gallery at Culturlann Sweeney in Kilkee
There will be an opportunity for the public to meet the photographers on in Cultúrlann Sweeney on Wednesday at 6pm
Seamus O’Donoghue , Secretary of Shannon Camera Club and Chairperson Edwin Bailey joined John in studio to talk about the club and encourage people along to their exhibition.

Last Thursday night a man suffered multiple injuries after yet another dog attack
Frankie Coote, Clare ISPCA Warden, joined John in studio  and explained that he was called to the scene at a house in Leitrim in Kilmihil where the victim was set upon by the animal
The man and his wife were fostering two dogs and one of them – a Chow Chow – turned on him as he went out to feed both animals
He suffered over 30 bite marks on his arms and body and had to receive hospital treatment
Frankie once again reiterated the importance of keeping dangerous dogs musselled and on leads at all times.
