On Morning Focus this Christmas Eve John Cooke was joined in studio by local choir The Wylde Roses

Director Doireann Wylde and members had a chat with John about how the year has been for them and their plans for 2014

The 18 member three piece female choir then performed ‘An Irish Blessing’

Head Chef at The Rowan Tree in Ennis Aine Ni Ghaboid joined John in studio to answer listeners’ queries and had plenty of tips and advice on how to produce the finest turkey, ham, gravy, stuffing and trimmings!

Children all over the world will be doing their best to stay awake for as long as possible tonight in the hope of catching a glimpse of Santa Claus – with many rising in the very early hour to see what Santa has left for them

Mairead Collins spoke with some first class pupils in Ennis National School to find out what they’d like Santa to bring them tonight…

Joan Blackburn, forecaster with Met Eireann, had a word with John with a weather update for tonight and coming days

Met Eireann isn’t ruling out festive snowfall – although a White Christmas isn’t looking likely, the north and west may get some snow today

The main weather feature over the next few days will be strong winds, although they are likely to ease by tonight.

Now on its 24th year, the annual Lahinch Christmas Day Swim will take place at 12.15 at the prom in Lahinch

Wrist bands are available to purchase from Lahinch Surf Shop, Lahinch Post Office & Unglerts Bakery Ennistymon for €5 each

Charities being supported this year are Home Care Clare and Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin

John Fawl urged people to come along and support them.

Therese Young spoke about the Cappa Christmas Day Swim – the annual event takes place at 11.15am at Cappa Pier

Supporting Home Share Clare and the RNLI Lifeboat.

John O’Connell spoke about the Kildysart Christmas Day Swim taking place at 12 noon at Gortglass lake

It’s in aid of the West Clare Mini Marathon and this is the 10th year of swim.

Also, the Miltown Malbay Christmas Day Swim will take place at the White Strand at 1pm – in aid of Burren Sub Aqua Search and Recovery.

We had some more entertainment from the Wylde Roses with ‘Sweet singing in the Choir’ – a Medley of The Holly and the Ivy, Angels we have heard on High, and Ding Dong Merrily on High

During her visit to Ennis National School last week Mairead Collins happened upon some of the children’s Christmas concert… she spoke with pupils and parents…

2013 was a hell of a year – Mairead Collins asked people in Ennis what the highlight of it was for them…

And looking to 2014 – Millennial Brian Boru Celebrations are kicking off spectacularly on New Year’s Eve in Killaloe Ballina

On New Year’s Day morning at 11.30am there will be a flag raising in Kincora as Una Kierse, chairperson of the Killaloe Ballina 2014 Committee, explained when she spoke with John.

Finally, The Wylde Roses performed ‘Fairytale of New York’

A very Happy Christmas to all of our Morning Focus listeners and the very best for the New Year!
