The midweek edition of Morning Focus heard about some great Christmas reads and suggestions for gifts for book-lovers.

The show opened with a chat with Louis Fay, General Manager of St Francis’s Credit Union in Ennis. While the network is to pilot a mortgage lending system next year, the credit union in Ennis is leading the way and has been offering mortgages for the last 12 months. Listen back below:

Then, the talk turned to a jobs boost for East Clare with news of 70 new posts at Beckman Coulter in O’Callaghan’s Mills. Gavin was joined by Minister Pat Breen.

Daire Ó Criodáin of the Clare Samaritans was Gavin’s next guest. He came to studio to explain why the organisation is inviting people to a candle-lit vigil tomorrow (Thurs Dec 21) on the shortest day of the year at the Height in Ennis (6-9pm).

Then, the show heard the moving story of New Quay man John O’Donoghue who has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). He was joined by Fidelma Routeledge a nurse with the Irish MND Association and John Sweeney of the Clare Sports Partnership who is organising a Reindeer Run on the Flaggy Shore on December 23. Listeners then heard some of the highlights of the Clare FM Christmas schedule with Operations Manager, Padraic Flaherty.

Then, there was a chat about a festive Tractor Run in Sixmilebridge when David Deighan joined the show.

After that, Tom McEvoy of Pieta House spoke to Gavin about a fundraiser for the suicide bereavement organisation in Ennis. On Friday night (Dec 22) an event in memory of Aodhán Kelly will take place at the Old Ground Hotel from 9pm.

The legendary Sharon Shannon then joined Gavin to chat about her current projects and a gig with Mundy at Treacy’s West County Hotel on December 29. Listen back below:
