Morning Focus opened with audio from boxer Michael Conlon who was angry and disappointed after his Olympic defeat on Tuesday (Aug. 16).

So too were are all Irish boxing fans, but where has it gone wrong, with our much heralded boxing team now returning from Brazil empty-handed.

Gavin spoke with Kevin Doyle, boxing writer with The Irish Sun, and began by asking him if Conlon was right to be so angry

This year's Leaving Certs received their results in the heart of Fleadh week in Ennis.

1260 leaving cert students across the county got their results this morning (Weds. Aug. 17).

According to the Department of Education, 648 of those were female and 612 were male.

A further 80 took the Leaving Cert Applied Programme in Clare.

The Minister for Education's congratulated a national total of 58,000 students collecting their leaving certificate results today.

Richard Bruton's encouraging them to consider apprenticeships and traineeships.

There's some concern over maths and science subjects – with more than 4,000 students failing the maths exam.

The number getting seven A1s has halved since last year.

Gavin was joined in studio by Aisling Haugh, Guidance Counsellor at Kilrush Community College and Clarity Career Coaching. He also heard from Ennis woman Edel Breslin who took a year out to travel to Berlin before opting to study Culinary Entrepreneurship at DIT.

Morning Focus asked why numbers donating blood in this region are dropping. The fact is there are more and more barriers and that's resulted in drop of more than one-fifth in the number of new donors coming forward over the last hear.

To address the issue, the Irish Blood Transfusion Service is taking part in a global initiative with organisations across 21 countries to address what's now a global decline.

In Ireland the average age of donors last year was almost 41, and in this region, it's believed the lack of new donors is partly down to the fact that young people have been moving away in increasing numbers in recent years. Gavin spoke to Aileen Browne, Midwest Area Manager with the IBTS.

Clare FM's CaoimhÍn O Sé looked ahead to what Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann promises today (Tue. August 16) in terms of events, activities, craic agus ceoil.

Visitors to Ennis this week, amid all the music and craic, will have seen plenty of colour too.

In particular, lime green.

That's the colour of the t-shirts worn by the Fleadh volunteers, 1500 of whom have signed up to help in the staging of this huge event.

Gavin Grace presented a special report on volunteering and why the Fleadh is still looking for more.

Clare FM's Morning Focus producer, Fiona McGarry heard that love is in the air at the Fleadh down in Ennis. As we know by now, the All-Ireland Fleadh is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of people to Ennis and give a boost of millions of euros to the local economy.

However, there's another spin-off that mighn't initially be obvious, and that's the element of romance.

Up to 500 marriages could result from this year's event according to legendary matchmaker Willie Daly. He was in Ennis last evening where he gave his reaction to the Fleadh – and shared his memories.

Regular guest, John Underhill, from Burren Vets joined Gavin to conclude this edition of Morning Focus.
