On todays Morning Focus with John Cooke, we spoke with Shannon man Pat Madden who was shocked as his water metre shows 30 years usage in three months. A water meter outside his home shows more than 1.5 million litres has passed through it since November. Pat says he has realised water is running through the meter, even when his taps are off and he is trying to figure out where the leak is.

Alan Quinn, Mentoring Programme Co-ordinator with Le Cheile the Mentoring and Youth Justice Support Services spoke to John a new programme looking for volunteers from the Ennis/Shannon/Limerick area to become mentors to a young person or parent involved with the Probation Service. Charlie Weston – Personal Finance Editor Irish Independent brokedown the new mortgage rules decided by The Central Bank which stipulate that borrowings by first-time buyers up to €220,000 will be approved with a deposit of 10pc. But any amount over €220,000 will require a 20pc deposit while non first-time buyers have been hardest hit under and will have to come up with a 20pc deposit.

Finally on the show, we had an in-studio a panel of ordinary people who know exactly what the challenging role as family carer entails. They shared their experience of looking after a loved one with disabilities or serious illness, their views on how the situation for carers could be improved and why the government needs to listen to their opinions.On the panel we had Cora Long from Scarriff who cared for her Husband Tom for 9 years until his death. Joe Crowe from Ennis who is a full time carer for his wife Joan who suffers from Dementia. Geraldine Power from Ennis who returned from America to care for her mother Mary when she became ill and for the following two years until her death in 2012.
