On The Afternoon Show today Clare FM’s Máire Moynahan was joined by the Friday Panel – Allen Flynn of the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis, Caroline Browne from the Irish Wheelchair Association – Clare Branch and Eugene Hogan of Bridge PR in Sixmilebridge. Up for discussion on today’s panel was North Korea; This week the surveillance alert level has been raised over signs of North Korea preparing a missile test. The state’s largest neighbour China has ordered travel agents in the north-east to stop tourism into the country. It’s claimed that Pyongyang is preparing to launch missile tests and South Korea believes they could now happen "any day". The panel also discussed the legacy of the late Margaret Thatcher and about how police and the armed forces in Britain are planning the biggest security operation since the Olympics for her funeral next Wednesday. Also discussed was this week’s report from Unicef that found 86 per cent of children here are happy with their lives. The report rated Ireland among the top ten places in the world to be a child among the 29 OECD countries. The Netherlands, Norway, and Iceland are top of the list while bottom of the table are Latvia, Lithuania and Romania. The report shows Ireland has the highest rate of children exercising with almost one in three children exercising for a least an hour a day. However, the report has raised concerns about an increase in bullying here.

Also Paul “Calso” Callaghan our resident Chef and Food Blogger from Clarecastle was in studio and today focussed on cakes and baking – he had some recipes, tips and advice on how you can create the best and tastiest cakes. He also discussed different types of icing and decorations. For more on Calso’s recipes you can visit his blog at thesustainablelarder.blogspot.com
